I have been plugging away at my current work in progress, The Jimmy Project like crazy over the last couple of weeks, and I’ve got good news. Or good news for me, anyway: I’m halfway done.

The total right now sits at just about 42,000 words, which is actually a bit more than halfway. From what I estimate, the first draft will land at somewhere in the neighborhood of 65,000-75,000 words, so technically I’m more than halfway. But as someone who’s run a marathon before, I can tell you that thinking “hey, I’m halfway done with this crazy slog of a thing” is a quick way to get kicked in the testicles by a punter made entirely out of fatigue. I don’t know if that analogy means anything at all, but hey, it’s out there already and there’s nothing I can do about it.

I’m learning some interesting lessons about first drafts (again), but it’s nice how much this thing is coming together. I think I’ve finally slipped into the piece’s voice really comfortably, which should make for a fun round of edits on the next go around, but overall, I’m really pleased. Because Jimmy is a pretty slick kid, and he’s all kinds of super.

Anyway, in celebration of this milestone, here’s some music to kick people in the face to.
